WND is a … well, let's call it a uniquely-perspected media outlet that combines the ideological breadth of Fox News with the journalistic excellence of The National Enquirer.<\/i> So it's not something I usually write about, or even deem necessary to comment on.<\/p>\n

But, c'mon, folks — this<\/i> is what you come up with?<\/p>\n

After noting in an "Exclusive!" that "A top federal health official said Thursday the recent outbreak of measles that first appeared in California’s Disneyland probably came from overseas," they then go on to quote conservative radio host Michael Savage:<\/p>\n

“Immigrants and epidemics – I’ve been sounding the alarm bell on this since I began in radio in 1994,” Savage wrote to WND. “The socialist government, media, academic, medical apparatchiks have looked the other way or changed the origin of numerous illnesses which were once eradicated in our once-first world nation.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Savage, who holds a Ph.D in nutritional ethnomedicine, continued: “Measles had been nearly eradicated until about 15 years ago. When Clinton busted our border with Mexico, the floodgates were opened to infected migrants. Measles, TB, even malaria is returning! This is a form of medical genocide.”<\/i><\/p>\n

He continued: “These illegal migrants may have a greater resistance to these illnesses owing to the fact they live in the midst of the infecting organisms. Our population is nearly ‘virgin’ to these infectious organisms. The killer flu raging through our population, measles, TB are all the result of this anti-American government.”<\/i><\/p>\n

Just a few things.<\/p>\n

First off, the reference to an "overseas" origin is going back to another article at WND itself<\/i> (http:\/\/www.wnd.com\/2015\/01\/cdc-disney-measles-outbreak-came-from-overseas\/<\/a>). But if you follow that link back, the CDC official claimed it was probably "a foreign tourist or by an American coming back with the virus."<\/p>\n

So one of two alternatives is that it was one of those damned furriners Savage is fulminating about, the other one of those probably-liberal Americans who decides to vacation outside of the good ol' USA.<\/p>\n

Neither<\/i> case has anything to do with immigrants, legal or illegal.<\/p>\n

(By the way, noting that Savage has a PhD in "nutritional ethnomedicine" makes it sound like he's a medical expert when he talks about epidemiology and the spread of disease. His degree, from 1978, was based on a thesis on nutritional ethnomedicine in Fiji — in other words, how food and nutrition is used in traditional medicines on the Pacific island of Fiji — which doesn't sound like it has much to do with discussions of measles outbreaks, let alone the other topics Savage weighs in on.)<\/p>\n

Savage isn't alone — all of the other "experts" listed in the article all inveigh about those dirty illegal immigrants — which, again, have nothing to do with the measles infections that started at Disneyland, at least according to WND's own article..<\/p>\n

I mean, sure, WorldNutDaily is going to have its own unique kink<\/del> twist on today's headline news … but either they aren't reading their own articles, or they think nobody else is.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
