And, no, the answer is not, "Because both are fabulous," at least according to Mike Huckabee, who instead asserts it is because both are unacceptable to religions that oppose them.<\/p>\n

"It's like asking somebody who's Jewish to start serving bacon-wrapped shrimp in their deli"<\/i><\/p>\n

No, it's like asking somebody who's Jewish to not serve anyone who eats bacon elsewhere. There's a big distinction — and, to my knowledge, not a lot of Jews hold that position.<\/p>\n

In fact, to my knowledge, there are a lot of Jewish people who do, in fact, eat bacon, considering the strict kosher laws of the Torah and subsequent interpretations to be unrealistic and unnecessary to a virtuous life.<\/p>\n

As an extension of that, not all people who are Christian reject gay marriage. Defining rejection of gay marriage as part of some inherent Christian doctrine is improper, to say the least. <\/p>\n

Christians who feel that gay marriage is sinful are not obliged to marry someone of the same gender, or even go to the weddings of same-sex couples. That's very different from civil recognition of gay marriage, or public accommodation laws that protect against discrimination against customers, including, it must be noted, Christians.<\/p>\n
