Are we really turning back the clock on a century and more of public health and safety regulations? What next, the &quot;Freedom&quot; of Open Sewers?<\/p>\n<p><i>&#39;One of the things that I don&rsquo;t understand about people who say that the government is overreaching when it comes to health regulations is that those regulations didn&rsquo;t come out of a vacuum. They didn&rsquo;t come out of a socialist&rsquo;s mind with an aim to destroy the free market. They came out of epidemiological work that tells us very clearly and with a lot of evidence that infectious diseases are passed on by people when they fail to do certain things.&#39;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes these arguments come across like a parent telling a four year old they need to do something, and getting a stubborn &quot;Nuh-uh, you can&#39;t make me!&quot; Which is cute, until you get some major disease outbreaks and people die.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"sm2wp\"><p>\n<a style='display:inline;' href='http:\/\/epidemiological.net\/2015\/02\/04\/when-politics-trumps-science-and-common-sense'><br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/52tj6yhKSUA4Qbqx6rRJ97ABdD-MRtNgJlZoP_0N2DBSORmhA22TK_q1xnAThX9a9fI87uJx0Ale-pjpKlEn-gneowRAtul2bR8tQVmxjEQ24xeNXX599TZx1OEiad83jowOGA=w506-h303-p' border='0' style='max-width:650px;'\/><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\n<span style='font-size:large;'><a href='http:\/\/epidemiological.net\/2015\/02\/04\/when-politics-trumps-science-and-common-sense'>When politics trumps science and common sense<\/a><\/span><br \/>\nAs I sit down to write this, I wonder how this blog and this blog post will affect any political future I may have.
