{"id":4980,"date":"2003-11-21T09:57:02","date_gmt":"2003-11-21T16:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/?p=4980"},"modified":"2003-11-21T09:57:02","modified_gmt":"2003-11-21T16:57:02","slug":"conference_call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2003\/11\/21\/conference_call.html","title":{"rendered":"Conference calls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During these days of tight travel budgets, companies, more than ever, are depending on conference calls to keep in touch.<\/p>\n<p>Alas, that approach has some serious drawbacks, since <a title=\"NCBuy Weird News: Survey Reveals What Workers Are Really Doing During Conference Calls - 2003-11-21\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbuy.com\/news\/2003-11-21\/1008308.html\">folks may not be listening<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block\">The RoperASW\/Tandberg poll looked at workers in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Norway and Hong Kong, and found in all countries except America and Norway, less than half of workers pay full attention during audio conferences.<br \/>\nSo what are they doing instead? Twenty-nine percent of British workers say they doodle, while 22 percent of Germans surf the web. Twenty percent of Americans say they have side conversations with someone else during conference calls.<br \/>\nIt gets weirder: 22 percent of Hong Kong workers admit they weren&#8217;t fully dressed during their last teleconference, while 14 percent of them were doing their makeup or hair.<br \/>\nFinally, seven percent of Americans admit they&#8217;ve left a call early &#8212; the highest percentage out of all the countries surveyed.<\/p>\n<p>So reach out and touch someone &#8212; but make sure they&#8217;re dressed, first.<\/p>\n<p><small>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\/2003_11_01_archive.html#106941712538465829\">BoingBoing<\/a>)<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During these days of tight travel budgets, companies, more than ever, are depending on conference calls to keep in touch.
