I think the described "Star Trek: Federation" series sounds like a great idea. It's removed from the past TV series in much the way that TNG was from TOS, but it also resonates well with the current zeitgeist:<\/i> the idea that the glory days might be behind us and we've gotten a bit too fat and happy … and that a threat has to force us to live up to our past heroes (and avoid looking to hard into the abyss ourselves) — yeah, that could resonate with at least some of us here in the US, at least.<\/p>\n
