A couple buys an old church and turns it into an art gallery, restaurant, and place that folk can rent out for a wedding.<\/p>\n

They decide that, no, it would violate their religious beliefs to rent the place out to gay couples looking to be wed. Since this is public accommodation discrimination under Iowa law, they are sued and ave to pay a $5K settlement. They decide to no longer rent out the hall for weddings.<\/p>\n

Word gets around town that they're people who don't like gays. The restaurant and art gallery business declines.<\/p>\n

The couple decides to close doors.<\/p>\n

This, according to Ted Cruz, is "liberal fascism" — not just the bits about not being able to discriminate between customers, but the idea that the local folk didn't care to bring their custom to a location that represented something they didn't like. Some might call that the power of the marketplace, but it's campaign season, so the right narrative to the base is all.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
