Dear Mr. Banks (and your legal team at Liberty Institute): If Ford fired you because you said, "I'm a Christian," then, yes, you'd be fired for for your religious beliefs and, in nearly all situations, you'd have a case under EEO laws, the Civil Rights Act, etc.<\/p>\n

But that's not what you said. When you found that Ford had an LGBT employees group, you posted on the company intranet:<\/p>\n

'For this Ford Motor should be thoroughly ashamed. Endorsing and promoting sodomy is of benefit to no one. This topic is disruptive to the workplace and is an assault on Christians and morality, as well as antithetical to our design and our survival. Immoral sexual conduct should not be the topic for an automotive manufacturer to endorse or promote. And yes – this is historic – but not in a good way. Never in the history of mankind has a culture survived that promotes sodomy. Heterosexual behavior creates life – homosexual behavior leads to death.'<\/i><\/p>\n

That's harassment — aggressive and disparaging behavior toward other employees, creating a hostile workplace. Whether motivated by religion, aliens, or a brochure you picked up on a street corner, it's perfectly within Ford's rights to terminate your employment for that, the same as if you'd gone off on a rant about blacks, Jews, women, or veterans. Or, for that matter, if someone on the company intranet had decried Christian employees, even if<\/i> that person was motivated by their own faith.<\/p>\n

That's not religious persecution. In fact, it's the opposite.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
