{"id":51773,"date":"2015-07-17T10:10:07","date_gmt":"2015-07-17T16:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2015\/07\/17\/sports-or-education-you-cant-have-both.html"},"modified":"2015-07-25T13:24:22","modified_gmt":"2015-07-25T19:24:22","slug":"sports-or-education-you-cant-have-both","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2015\/07\/17\/sports-or-education-you-cant-have-both.html","title":{"rendered":"Sports or Education: You Can&#039;t Have Both"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And I don&#39;t mean by that the debate in academia about spending money on sports programs vs academics &#8212; that&#39;s a separate, if worthwhile, discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I&#39;m talking about the current Scott Walker-led escapades in Wisconsin where, days after cutting $250 million (and the concept of tenure) from the state&#39;s university system budget, Wisconsin is now on course to pitch in $250 million in public financing for a brand new stadium for the Milwaukee Bucks.<\/p>\n<p>Walker and his GOP-led legislature keep talking about people taking responsibility for themselves, and of getting rid of institutions, like public unions, that they say sponge off the taxpayer. The bill will now be sent to the state Assembly for approval. Though the Assembly is likely to pass it, there is still some backroom negotiating and deals to be completed beforehand.
