{"id":5205,"date":"2003-10-15T18:05:45","date_gmt":"2003-10-16T01:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/?p=5205"},"modified":"2003-10-15T18:05:45","modified_gmt":"2003-10-16T01:05:45","slug":"yeah_i_sort_of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2003\/10\/15\/yeah_i_sort_of.html","title":{"rendered":"Yeah, I sort of thought so"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After you get enough &#8220;legitimate&#8221; junk mail and security bulletins from Microsoft, the bogus viral ones begin to stand out.<\/p>\n<p>Hence my not being fooled by an e-mail from &#8220;MS Security Services&#8221; subject &#8220;Last Microsoft Critical Patch&#8221; &#8212; nor by another one the same day from &#8220;Microsoft&#8221; subject &#8220;Last Net Critical Patch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yup.  <a href=\"http:\/\/us.mcafee.com\/virusInfo\/default.asp?id=helpCenter&#038;hcName=swen\">A known virus <\/a>(<a href=\"http:\/\/securityresponse.symantec.com\/avcenter\/venc\/data\/w32.swen.a@mm.html\">or, more properly, worm<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>(This one will stop security processes, then mail itself to e-mail addresses on your machine).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not quite sure how to advise people to be careful with these things.  I mean, M$ does send out security updates by mail.  The best I can suggest is be smart.  Typos, grammar errors, lack of capitalization are usually good signs.  Searching on places like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.symantec.com\">Symantec <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcafee.com\">McAfee <\/a>are also good ideas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After you get enough &#8220;legitimate&#8221; junk mail and security bulletins from Microsoft, the bogus viral ones begin to stand out.
