Which is what we ended up doing, thus taking a longer, flying more miles, and burning more aviation fuel, for less. Go figure.

We got to the airport, checked in, and saw they were offering up goodies for volunteers. Since we netted a faboo deal last time out, we expressed interest. After we schlepped our bags from the counter over to the Inspection Machines (ONT is kind of screwy, space-wise), that is.

Turned out that we could give up our seats on the little puddle jumper, be bussed to LAX, and take a flight three hours later from LAX to DEN, in return for an airfare anywhere domestic. Mildly tempting, but since tomorrow is a work day, every hour not home counted, so we passed — even though the puddle jumper was late, and if we missed our connection, that’s the same LAX-DEN flight they’d put us on.

No worries. All worked out in time. Katherine enjoyed having her own seat by her lonesome (the seats on the prop were 1+2). And when we got there, we were shuttled from the commuter terminal at LAX to … across the hall from the gate where our flight was taking off. And taking off fifteen minutes late, so we had time to wolf down some food.

Flight from LAX to DEN was pretty standard. The only interesting thing was that there was a little girl at ONT about Katherine’s age that she played with while we were waiting. And she was also on the DEN flight — across the aisle from us. Which was both entertaining for Katherine and squirelliness-inducing, but probably all good nonetheless.

Home was still here. Word has it that it was cool and rainy here our entire time away, which means the yard is in seventh heaven, and Margie’s Cunning Plan to Get the Irony Gods to Keep Colorado Cool This Summer by Our Installing Air Conditioning is actually working. No doubt that’s the cue for triple digit temps to hit Colorado …

(Actually, it was working out in California, too, where instead of temps in the 90s and 100s up at Lake San Antonio, it was only in the 70s and 80s. And it was that way all down 101, too, which was pretty remarkable. I mean, people eating outside, at the McD’s, in Buellton, in June? Inconceivable!)

Anyway, got into the house — and it was positively cool. Went to the thermostat, worried we’d been a/cing an empty house all week. “HOLD 66” Eep! We had the house set down to 66!!??

Well, not, we’d had it set to 88. But it was only 66 in the house. Amazing.

Only other news (until I pound through my e-mail, etc.) is that a good Net-friend from New York City is moving to Denver.
