I just sort of like this essay<\/a>. Surely there is a middle ground between sheep-like passivity and apocalyptic doomsaying, pretty much no matter what the issue is.<\/p>\n

Or, as Calvin Coolidge noted, “If you see ten troubles coming down the road, you can be sure that nine will run into the ditch before they reach you.” <\/p>\n

Which doesn’t mean the tenth can’t hurt you, or that you automatically know which is the one to worry about. But assuming that every one is a mortal threat is probably counter-productive, too.<\/p>\n
