Regardless of ad campaigns, my own memories of the Olds is that it was the car of choice for my mom&#8217;s folks.  First, and one of my earliest memories, a huge white olds sedan (a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.442.com\/vcs\/1964_1972\/esko.html\">Ninety Eight<\/a>?), with red seats you could lie cross-wise across, and the coolest speedometer ever (a green bar marching horizontally across the dashboard, which then turned orange when you passed a certain dangerous speed).  <\/p>\n<p>That car eventually went away, replaced by a smaller red with a white landau top (a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/SiliconValley\/Vista\/3973\/73.html\">Cutless Supreme<\/a>?).  Sportier, I suppose, but still The Grandparent Car, into which golf bags would be loaded.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually they stopped buying new Olds.  And now <a title=\"Dead at 106: Oldsmobile, the nation's oldest car company - Apr. 29, 2004\" href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2004\/04\/28\/pf\/autos\/olds_dead\/index.htm?cnn=yes\">nobody will<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><small>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.damianpenny.com\/archived\/002602.html\">Daimnation<\/a>)<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From a personal standpoint, I&#8217;m not likely to be an Oldsmobile buyer.
