Driving to the airport, out on E-470, I was in the fast lane and noticed, to the side of the road ahead, a hawk hard at work on some road kill off on the side. It was, apparently, spooked by me and another vehicle in the lane a few lengths behind me, driving toward it, so it took wing.<\/p>\n
“Katherine! Look at the hawk!” I suggested, as it headed our direction, always interested in showing her interesting things …<\/p>\n
… about two seconds before I realized that it wasn’t gaining altitude nearly fast enough …<\/p>\n
I heard a loud ka-thunk<\/em> from the other vehicle, and, when I looked in the rear view mirror, saw a puff of feathers going in all directions.<\/p>\n Margie had her fingers over her eyes. “Katherine, don’t <\/em>look at the hawk.”<\/p>\n It was actually pretty funny, in a morbid sort of way.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “What?
