Some fine stuff there, both that I&#8217;d known and that I&#8217;d never heard before (but which makes sense).<\/p>\n<p class=\"block\">When helping someone fix their computer over the phone, and you want them to see if all the cables are plugged in correctly, don\u2019t ask, \u201cHave you checked to see if the cable is plugged in?\u201d because the customer will always say, \u201cOf course I did, do you think I\u2019m a moron?\u201d Instead say, \u201cRemove the cable, blow the dust out of the connector, and plug it back in.\u201d The customer will most likely reply, \u201cHey, it\u2019s working now\u2014I guess that dust really builds up in there!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><small>(via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defectiveyeti.com\/archives\/000958.html\" target=\"_blank\">Defective Yeti<\/a>)<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to some fine reader submissions, the Tricks of the Trade article is now greatly expanded from its previous version.
