{"id":6642,"date":"2004-08-10T10:45:29","date_gmt":"2004-08-10T17:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2004\/08\/10\/cloaking-device-engaged.html"},"modified":"2004-08-10T10:45:29","modified_gmt":"2004-08-10T17:45:29","slug":"cloaking_device","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2004\/08\/10\/cloaking_device.html","title":{"rendered":"Cloaking device engaged &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Used to be a lot of jokes about aliens being able to watch old<em> I Love Lucy<\/em> episodes and the like due to TV and radio broadcasts beaming out forever into space.<\/p>\n<p>But they may be plumb out of luck when it comes to watching <em>Stargate: Atlantis<\/em> or newer shows.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/news\/news.jsp?id=ns99996255\" target=\"_blank\">The Earth is fading to black<\/a> when it comes to such broadcasts, as more and more &#8220;broadcasting&#8221; is going from open frequencies to cable\/fiber communication that don&#8217;t leak signal out beyond our planet.<\/p>\n<p>The same holds true for our detecting communication from other worlds, too, and SETI sorts say that may explain why they haven&#8217;t found anything of late.  Indeed, the current thinking is that such communication would need to be made by explicit beacons shouting out a Who-like &#8220;We are here! We are here!
