{"id":6689,"date":"2004-08-02T20:48:30","date_gmt":"2004-08-03T03:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2004\/08\/02\/tennessee-time.html"},"modified":"2004-08-02T20:48:30","modified_gmt":"2004-08-03T03:48:30","slug":"tennessee_time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2004\/08\/02\/tennessee_time.html","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tullahoma-tn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tullahoma<\/a> is the my destination, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zwire.com\/site\/news.cfm?brd=1614\" target=\"_blank\">smallish burg<\/a> of around 18,000, about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.city-data.com\/city\/Tullahoma-Tennessee.html\" target=\"_blank\">65 miles south of Nashville<\/a>, which route is complete with a couple of turns midways along the way onto different US routes (I-24 to US 231 to US 41A).  Along the way you pass by farms, sizeable towns\/small cities, trackless woods, and (by my count) eight <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wafflehouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Waffle Houses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And a ninth down the road is where I&#8217;m having breakfast tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n<p>(Indeed, you pass by two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.com\/waffleshrine\/\" target=\"_blank\">Waffle Houses<\/a> on the short bit between the airport and the Interstate.  They are ubiquitous throughout Shadow here.)<\/p>\n<p>So, anyway, thank heavens for <a href=\"http:\/\/hertzneverlost.com\" target=\"_blank\">NeverLost<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tullahoma is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arnold.af.mil\/aedc\/images\/area.gif\" target=\"_blank\"> right next to<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arnold.af.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arnold Engineering Development Center<\/a> (AEDC) at Arnold AFB, &#8220;the World&#8217;s Premier Flight Simulation Facility,&#8221;  This is not a coincidence.<\/p>\n<p>Other, more random thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><s>Port<\/s> <em>Pork <\/em>(and pigs and ham and bacon) are major themes in advertising here.\n<li>There are a lot of churches.  A lot of churches.  Many, many, many of which are Baptist, and most of the others of which are independent or smaller dominations (such as the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogop.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Church of God of Prophecy<\/a>&#8220;).\n<li>No fences &#8212; except to keep in livestock.  Most yards are swathes of lawn that you can only tell have turned into another person&#8217;s property when the other person&#8217;s house shows up.\n<li>Plenty of billboards for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seerockcity.com\/seerockcity\/sevenstate.asp\" target=\"_blank\">ROCK CITY!<\/a>  See Seven States!&#8221; &#8212; which actually appears to be in Georgia.<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tullahoma.tn.usa.freehotelguide.com\/Jameson-Inn-Tullahoma.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jameson Inn in Tullahoma<\/a> is nice and quiet and clean.  It&#8217;s also decidely lacking in broadband, as well as movies.  Though it does have 78 cable stations.
