Despite it being bitterly cold (I’ve watched the temp at home drop from 4°F to 1°F since I got to work), the drive in was not that bad this morning. I seriously considered staying at home, but the CDOT freeway monitors<\/a> said speeds were decent, and they were. I took, as usual, the I-25\/70 route, avoiding the foothill issues on C-470, and for most of the way the roadways were actually pretty clear; the 2-4″ forecast last night was more like 1-2 in the Denver Metro Area. The cold (and it’s been prolonged) kept it from melting much, so ice wasn’t an issue, and in many places the snow had simply drifted between the lanes.<\/p>\n

Which was a better way to start the day than at 2 a.m. with Katherine deciding she “couldn’t sleep” and wanting someone to help her do it — which seems to translate to “sit with me indefinitely or let me crawl in bed with you.” We declined both options, though not without much angst and upset (on all parts). We did sit up long enough with her to eventually calm her down, though, after half an hour (urg).<\/p>\n

And also a better way to start the day than fumbling with my alarm clock, with much noise and intermittent radio tunes. My new alarm clock (purchased in, what, late November) has multiple alarms and a turn-it-off interface that is both clever and unintuitive at 5 in the morning. I had myself trained in it before our vacation, but clearly the training didn’t stick. I’ll have to look at it tonight to get the keystrokes down.<\/p>\n
