And, if so, suhweet &#8212; a link that lets you opt-out of &#8220;pre-approved credit and insurance offers&#8221; garned by companies buying credit lists from credit reporting companies like Equifax (the page is cosponsored by all the big reporting companies).<\/p>\n<p>You can either type the link directly &#8212; <em>www.optoutprescreen.com<\/em> &#8212; or go to a site that will redirect you (like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epic.org\/privacy\/fcra\/optoutredirect.html\" target=\"_blank\">this one<\/a> under the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epic.org\" target=\"_blank\">EPIC<\/a>, which recommends doing this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epic.org\/privacy\/2004tips.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).  For some reason, the credit reporting companies won&#8217;t let you click on a link directly to it, possibly for security reasons, but more likely (he says, mistrustingly) because they really don&#8217;t <em>want <\/em>you to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Once on the page, you give your identifying info, and designate whether you want to permanently opt-out, do so for just five years, or even opt back into such offers.
