{"id":7063,"date":"2004-11-04T06:56:07","date_gmt":"2004-11-04T13:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2004\/11\/04\/political-progress.html"},"modified":"2004-11-04T06:56:07","modified_gmt":"2004-11-04T13:56:07","slug":"political_progr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2004\/11\/04\/political_progr.html","title":{"rendered":"Political progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In conjunction with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2004\/11\/02\/my_vote.html\" target=\"_blank\">Our Voting Adventure<\/a> the other day, Kitten and I had a long discussion of political signs, and I trained her to keep an eye out for them.  &#8220;I see one all blue and red and white!&#8221;  The ones that were the most visible to her &#8212; large lettering, simple and clean design, actually probably the most attractive ones out there, were for Pete Coors.  I appreciate a good design.  The Salazar signs were pretty ugly, by contrast, single color and blocky and messy.  <\/p>\n<p>Of course, Salazar won and Coors lost.  My aesthetic sense continues to bat a thousand.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the discussion, I noted that one of the presidential candidate signs had a &#8220;K.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Like Katherine?&#8221; she asked, catching on.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yup.  Only it&#8217;s &#8216;K&#8217; for &#8216;Kerry.'&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s a boy&#8217;s name.&#8221;  She must know one.  In my day, it was (phonetically, at least) a unisex name.   One of my first girlfriends was named Kari.  Hmmm.  Wonder if that hurt the Dems. <\/p>\n<p>Anyway, driving home yesterday, she brought up the &#8220;what was that word, &#8221;lection?'&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Uh-huh.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pres&#8217;dent Bush won the &#8216;lection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have no idea who taught her the name.  Though she may have picked it up as I was listening to the radio and NPR&#8217;s sonorous post mortem.  Like a sponge, that girl.  &#8220;Yup.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Does that mean we get to keep him?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Until you&#8217;re 8 years old, kid.
