Huzzah and hey-nonny-nonny. And he has enough graphic novels and trade paperback collections from me to keep him amused for several hospital stays, so hopefully he’s taking it easy and kicking back with them.

It’s cliche to say that one doesn’t like hospitals. I don’t particularly like or dislike them — but my greatest association with them is exhaustion. Events that lead to hospitalization never seem to happen at normal, regular hours, but usually happen at night. Include the time involved in admission, and testing, and initial treatment, and all that sort of stuff, the non-patient usually doesn’t get out of there until the late, late (verging into early) hours. Add in the stress to the non-patient, and it makes for very long, exhausting evenings.

Been there, way too many times.

So it was really no problem staying at J&D’s that first night until Jackie got back. I can remember coming back to an empty house under such circumstances, and it was never fun. So being able to give her a wave and a hug and a hang-in-there (even if I was less than razor-sharp-witted as I stumbled off the couch) felt good.

And having Doyce back home feels even better. Happy Thanksgiving a few days early.

Doyce is back on his feet, or at least enough recovered to go home from the hospital (and not testing positive for anything that would have kept him there).
