This one I actually use from the Start menu.  Because I do, sometimes, need to add up numbers.\n<li>Microsoft Photo Editor &#8211; A very nice, light, fast photo editor.  So, of course, M$ doesn&#8217;t distribute it with Office any more.\n<li>Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8  &#8211; A very nice, heavy, slow photo editor.  I use this for processing most of my photos.\n<li>Splash ID Desktop &#8211; Windows version of my Secret Password \/ Number \/ PIN \/ Rx \/ SSN \/ Credit Card storage database.\n<li>iPassConnect &#8211; VPN portal for the company.\n<li>palmOne Quick Install &#8211; File installer for my Palm\/Treo.\n<li>NetMeeting &#8211; Desktop sharing for Windows.<\/ul>\n<p>Now, the fact is, the Start Menu is not where the action is on my machine.  That would be the Quick Launch bar:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Show Desktop &#8211; a\/k\/a Hide Everything Quick.\n<li>Windows Explorer\n<li>PSA Cards &#8211; My phone book\n<li>IE &#8211; I don&#8217;t use it, but techs who come to work on my machine do, and I&#8217;d rather they find it here than go rooting around my Start menu for it &#8230;\n<li>Microsoft Outlook &#8211; Office e-mail, schedule, to-do list.\n<li>Microsoft Word &#8211; Word processing\n<li>Microsoft Excel &#8211; Duh &#8230;\n<li>SmartMT &#8211; Blog client.\n<li>Firefox &#8211; The browser I actually <em>use.<\/em>\n<li>BalanceLog &#8211; Key to the Geek Diet, where I enter in my calories.\n<li>Thunderbird &#8211; E-mail is Go!\n<li>Shortcut to our electronic timesheet system.\n<li>Shortcut to my WIST quotations database in Access\n<li>iTunes &#8211; My music player.\n<li>EditPad Light &#8211; My text editor.<\/ul>\n<p>By the way, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randyrants.com\/2005\/08\/my_desktop.html\" target=\"_blank\">Randy<\/a>, I keep my Taskbar on the left side of my screen, rather than the bottom, and for nearlhy all the reasons he does.<\/p>\n<p>Ah.  But I see that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neilturner.me.uk\/2005\/Aug\/17\/whats_on_your_start_menu.html\" target=\"_blank\">original idea<\/a> is the stuff in the &#8220;most recently used&#8221; Start menu.  Well &#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City of Heroes &#8211; Booyah!\n<li>HeroStats &#8211; Statistical tracker for CoH.\n<li>CoH Planner &#8211; Character planner for CoH.\n<li>Microsoft Office Picture Manager &#8211; New MS freebie photo editor\/organizer with Office.  So-so.\n<li>Command Prompt &#8211; Yes, I do sometimes use DOS.\n<li>Brainforest Deluxe &#8211; Creates to-do checklists for the Palm and the PC.\n<li>Tweak UI &#8211; I think I was in this the other day turning off the &#8220;let new windows opening up seize control of your screen&#8221; setting.\n<li>Microsoft Office PowerPoint &#8211; Yeah, I have to use this one, sometimes, too.\n<li>SpywareBlaster &#8211; Anti-spyware software; turns off\/locks down various settings that the black hats use.\n<li>Spybot S&#038;D &#8211; Another anti-spyware package.
