(Ironically, <a href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/Name?Billington,+Michael+(I)\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Billington<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelbillington.org.uk\/html\/tvzone.html\" target=\"_blank\">who<\/a> played Paul Foster in the same show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mi6.co.uk\/news\/index.php?itemid=2491&#038;catid=3\" target=\"_blank\">died two days earlier<\/a>.) (Both also had roles in Bond flicks.)<\/p>\n<p>And RIP to <a href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/Name?Elcar,+Dana\" target=\"_blank\">Dana Elcar<\/a>, too, who played in a zillion things, but was best known to me as Col. Lard in <em>Black Sheep Squadron<\/em> and Pete Thornton on <em>MacGyver<\/em>.  Oh, yeah, and he was in <em>The Sting<\/em>.  Any TV show or movie that called for an obnoxious and\/or officious and\/or bullying, bald, stocky guy, that was Dana Elcar.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/obituaries\/la-me-elcar10jun10,1,3421827.story?coll=la-news-obituaries\" target=\"_blank\">Good, solid actor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And, I&#8217;ll be darned, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;u=\/ap\/20050604\/ap_on_re_us\/deaths_29\" target=\"_blank\">RIP<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/us.imdb.com\/Name?Askin,+Leon\" target=\"_blank\">Leon Askin<\/a>, a Jewish refugee from the Nazis who went on to fame as, among other things, General Burkhalter on <em>Hogan&#8217;s Heroes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>My thanks to them (long after the fact) for the various hours of entertainment they provided me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RIP to Ed Bishop, best known (to me, at least) as Commander Straker in the short-lived UFO show by Gerry Anderson.
