The BBC has confirmed that the central Afghan town of Bamiyan was totally destroyed by the Taleban before they fled over the weekend. Evidence has also emerged of Bosnian-style ethnic cleansing in the region involving the execution of hundreds of local ethnic Hazara men. <\/p>\n

This is the same place, by the way, where the Taliban destroyed two ancient stone Buddhas earlier this year.<\/p>\n

On a related note, the eight foreign aid workers<\/a> who were arrested by the Taliban earlier this year, accused of the capital crime of preaching Christianity, got a reprieve when the Taliban judges decided to postpone the trial, for fear that the US bombing might prejudice them. The workers were then bundled off to Kandahar as the Taliban pulled out of Kabul.<\/p>\n

Can anyone say, “Hostages”?<\/p>\n
