Aside from having one of the coolest names going (and completely legit), he had a truly faboo basso voice, which achieved much indirect fame via Disney and other animated productions, and which gave Tony the Tiger his distinctive sound.  Basically, if you ever heard a really, really deep voice on a Disney ride (e.g., one of the singing busts at the Haunted Mansion), that was Thurl.  Ditto in the various Chuck Jones&#8217; Dr. Seuss adaptations of the 70s &#8212; a Wickersham Brother, Thing 1, and, most notably, the singer of &#8220;You&#8217;re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch&#8221; in the animated (and One True) <em>How the Grinch Stole Christmas<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A classic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Avocet points out, Thurl Ravenscroft has died.
