The FDA is about to implement new guidelines for sperm banks, suggesting that anonymous donations from any gay men who have had sex in the last five years be rejected<\/a>. The ostensible goal is to avoid the possibility of HIV infection — but not only does it presume that all gay men have promiscuous sex, it differs from guidelines regarding heterosexuals, where only an interval of a year since unprotected high-risk sex took place is needed for a donation to be allowed.<\/p>\n

In other words, if a gay man has been in a committed, monogamous relationship for the past five years, he is still presumed to be more “unclean” than a guy who was boffing hookers without a condom a year ago.<\/p>\n
