{"id":8341,"date":"2005-12-09T08:31:45","date_gmt":"2005-12-09T15:31:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2005\/12\/09\/getting-more-than-a-tad-embarrassing.html"},"modified":"2014-11-06T07:34:31","modified_gmt":"2014-11-06T14:34:31","slug":"getting_more_th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2005\/12\/09\/getting_more_th.html","title":{"rendered":"Getting more than a tad embarrassing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For a &#8220;land of the free&#8221; and a place based on the idea of inalienable rights to &#8220;life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,&#8221; it&#8217;s getting to be both embarrassing &#8212; and irksome &#8212; that <a href=\"http:\/\/msnbc.msn.com\/id\/10382347\/\" target=\"_blank\">the United States is falling so far behind the curve<\/a> on this sort of thing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block\">[&#8230;] Britain this week brought the Civil Partnerships Act into force. The act grants same-sex couples almost identical rights to those enjoyed by heterosexual married couples; the main difference being that a civil partnership cannot be registered on religious premises.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;] About a dozen countries in Europe allow same-sex unions, as do Canada and New Zealand, and South Africa recently paved the way to introduce them as early as next year.
