Amongst the post-dinner goodies we had was a bottle of Germain-Robin Mistelle of Mendocino Co. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.Mistelles or mistellas<\/a>, are actually a type of fortified drink, where brandy is added to unfermented grape juice (in the US it actually has to be at least partially fermented). All of which explains both the sweetness and the kick of what we quaffed.<\/p>\n

Alas, Germain-Robin<\/a> no longer makes a Mistelle. though they are evidently one of the pre-eminent brandy-makers in the US. Because of demand, they have passed on their processes (and supply the brandy) to Perry Creek Vineyards<\/a>.<\/p>\n
