{"id":8792,"date":"2006-04-14T10:04:35","date_gmt":"2006-04-14T17:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2006\/04\/14\/crack-in-the-world.html"},"modified":"2006-04-14T10:04:35","modified_gmt":"2006-04-14T17:04:35","slug":"crack_in_the_wo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2006\/04\/14\/crack_in_the_wo.html","title":{"rendered":"<em>Crack in the World<\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Watched one of my favorite Saturday Matinee movies (i.e., movies I used to watch as a kid on Saturday afternoons on Channel 13 back in California):  <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0059065\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crack in the World<\/a> <\/em>(1965).<\/p>\n<p>The cover says it all:  <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>THAN GOD IT&#8217;S ONLY A MOTION PICTURE!<\/p>\n<p>Science miscalculates &#8230; underground Atom Bomb explodes earth&#8217;s core &#8230; and the world totters on the brink of destruction!<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s Terrifying Look into What Might Happen Tomorrow!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I mean, who could ask for anything more?  We got:<\/p>\n<div class=\"img-shadow-right\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/images\/citw.jpg\" height=\"389\" width=\"495\" title=\"Crack in the World\" \/><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Volcanoes!\n<li>Stampedes!<\/p>\n<li>Atomic weapons!<\/p>\n<li>Duelling scientists!<\/p>\n<li>More volcanoes!<\/p>\n<li>The UN!<\/p>\n<li>Earthquakes!<\/p>\n<li>Love triangles!<\/p>\n<li>Veldt!  Atolls!  The Ocean!  The Land!<\/p>\n<li>Train wrecks!<\/p>\n<li>Mass destruction!<\/p>\n<li>People gathering in St Peter&#8217;s Square praying for a miracle!<\/p>\n<li>Lava!  Lots and lots of lava!  Magma, too!<\/p>\n<li>Massive elaborate sets!<\/p>\n<li>Still more volcanoes!<\/p>\n<li>Destruction of massive elaborate sets!<\/p>\n<li>Lots of pyrotechnics!<\/p>\n<li>Lots of stock footage!<\/p>\n<li>Cute animals!<\/p>\n<li>Apocalyptic devastation on a planet-shattering scale!<\/ul>\n<p>They just don&#8217;t make moves like this any more 00 which is kind of a shame (though it has some of ther <a href=\"http:\/\/twtd.bluemountains.net.au\/Rick\/liz_citw.htm\" target=\"_blank\">fans like me<\/a>).
