Kazu Kibuishi<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a&nbsp;Western.&nbsp; No, it&#8217;s SF.&nbsp;&nbsp; No, it&#8217;s both.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Firefly<\/em> fans would enjoy this; the background of the world is never really explained, but we have six-shooters and robots and a female protagonist and trains, and a basically story that could be recast as a classic cowboy tale, if you were willing to settle for that. <\/p>\n<p>Daisy&#8217;s a retired bandit, and&nbsp;a bit bored, when she gets hired to protect a train and its cargo headed toward a destination.&nbsp; Of course she takes the job, and of course it turns out to be a lot more complicated than that.&nbsp; The art is simple but deceiving in that simplicity, as it tells the story perfectly and with sophistication.&nbsp; The writing is simple, but in the same way. <\/p>\n<p>This is, as far as I can tell, the extent of the Daisy Kutter canon, which is&nbsp;a shame, because I&#8217;d buy more.&nbsp; Fun, amusing, exciting, spiffy. <\/p>\n<p><br style=\"CLEAR: both\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"img-shadow-right\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.amazon.com\/images\/P\/1930964854.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1930964854?&#038;tag=davedoesthebl-20\"><strong>Dork Tower<\/strong>: The Dork Side of the Goon (Vol. VII)<\/a><\/em> (Dorkstorm) [<b>4\/3\/3\/4<\/b>] (collects #25-29)<br \/>\n<em>w\/a. John Kovalic<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dork&nbsp;Tower tends to veer between one-off gaming\/genre\/geeky jokes and amusing soap&nbsp;opera about the people (and their muskrats) who love them.&nbsp; This volume, in addition to the regular hilarity, includes a tribute to Charles Schulz, &nbsp;as well as the continuing unrequited love between Matt and Gilly &#8212; which, itself, ends on quite the cliffhanger.<\/p>\n<p>Dork Tower is available as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dorktower.com\" target=\"_blank\">webcomic<\/a>, though the print comic only includes some of that content.&nbsp; It&#8217;s worth checking out.<\/p>\n<p>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr width=\"75%\" \/>\n<p>Not quite sure why this is taking me so long to go through, in comparison to, say, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2005\/08\/07\/bt05_this_bloke.html\" target=\"_blank\">this blitz of six reviews<\/a> from the end of last year&#8217;s Blogathon.&nbsp; I seem to be being more verbose.&nbsp; Is that a good thing?&nbsp; Time will tell.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><small><i>(listening to: Symphonic Cast, &#8220;Fantine&#8217;s Death&#8221; from <\/i>Les Mis\u00e9rables (Symphonic))<br \/>\n<small><i>(listening to: Nylons, &#8220;Ai no corrida&#8221; from <\/i>Fabric of Life)<\/small><\/small><br \/>\n<br \/>\n<small><i>(listening to: Sinatra, Frank, &#8220;If I Go Away&#8221; from <\/i>Fly Me to the Moon)<\/small><br \/>\n<br \/>\n<small><i>(listening to: Webber, Andrew Lloyd &amp; Tim Rice, &#8220;John Nineteen &#8211; Forty-One&#8221; from <\/i>Jesus Christ Superstar)<br \/>\n<small><i>(listening to: Fitzpatrick, James &amp; Prague Philharmonic, &#8220;Airforce One &#8211; Main Title&#8221; from <\/i>Jerry Goldsmith &#8211; 40 Years of Film Music)<br \/>\n<small><i>(listening to:&nbsp;Shaiman, Marc,&nbsp;&#8220;Thing Gets Work&#8221; from <\/i>Addams Family)<br \/>\n<small><i>(listening to: Clannad, &#8220;Bruach na Carriage B\u00e1ine&#8221; from <\/i>Fuaim)<\/small><\/small><\/small><\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Review code format (ranked 1-5, blah to faboo): [writing \/ art \/ new reader? \/ non-comics reader?] &nbsp; Daisy Kutter:&nbsp;The Last Train (Viper) [4\/4\/4\/4] w\/a.
