I’m at home this morning because sprinker people are coming later. I hopped onto a 7 a.m. phonecon with my boss and one of my directs and a vendor to go into contract negotiations. We’re doing all the preliminary chit-chat, and a series of phone-number tones suddenly rattle across the line.<\/p>\n
Hmmm. Must be someone else. I’m pretty sure I’m not hitting the redial button or something.<\/p>\n
And again it happens a minute later.<\/p>\n
Hmmm.<\/p>\n
Then I hear a sleepy, tired, kid’s voice. “Ah,” I think. “Must be Susie’s kids. She must be calling in from home …”<\/p>\n
… and then I realize it’s my<\/em> kid.<\/p>\n Hang up. Race over to her room. Hang up her the phone in her<\/em> hand.<\/p>\n See, Katherine has made an arrangement with my folks to call them up to talk about Sugar. Which is very cute, and very nice, and actually a step forward for her. I did have to talk with her yesterday when she revealed that she’d called Nona at 6:30 a.m., which is a wee bit earlier on the West Coast (though it turned out that Nona was already awake).<\/p>\n So, Katherine had awakened this morning and decided to call Nona. And, of course, she wasn’t checking to see if someone was already on the line — in fact, she never opened up the line, but was dialing the number and hitting Talk to dial it.
