{"id":9488,"date":"2006-06-27T13:03:34","date_gmt":"2006-06-27T20:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/wp\/2006\/06\/27\/respect-is-earned-part-2.html"},"modified":"2006-06-27T13:03:34","modified_gmt":"2006-06-27T20:03:34","slug":"respect_is_earn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2006\/06\/27\/respect_is_earn.html","title":{"rendered":"Respect is Earned, Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And, of course, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/2006\/06\/27\/respect_is_earn.html\" target=\"_blank\">further evidence<\/a> that <em>The Daily Show<\/em> is not only entertaining, but that politicians are buffoons, I submit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9A2p0dzmSn8&amp;eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aeropause.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\">yesterday&#8217;s review of the Video Game Hearings on Capitol Hill<\/a>.&nbsp; I mean, it&#8217;s not like they have to make this stuff up: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Rep Lee Terry (R-Nebraska): As a father of three young boys &#8212; 11, 8 and 6 &#8212; who are avid gamers, I&#8217;m very concerned about the content included in the games. <\/p>\n<p>Jon Stewart: And as I stand there, watching them play these violent games, helpless to do anything about it, I can&#8217;t help but wonder where the system has failed&#8230; <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Or this little tidbit: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Rep Joseph Pitts (R-Pennsylvania): It&#8217;s safe to say that a wealthy kid from the suburbs can can play Grand Theft Auto or similar games without turning to a life of crime, but a poor kid, who lives in a neighborhood where people really do steal cars, or deal drugs or shoot cops might not be so fortunate. [&#8230;] There&#8217;s almost certainly child somewhere in America who will be hurt by these games. Maybe his dad&#8217;s in jail or his brother&#8217;s already down on the corner, dealing drugs. <\/p>\n<p>Jon Stewart: Maybe he buys a gun. Steals a car and tries to run. But he doesn&#8217;t get far.
