Realized with a start that today is the 37th anniversary of my First Communion — 5\/4\/69 — held at St Joseph Catholic Church<\/a> in Pomona, California.<\/p>\n

It’s not that I’m obsessive about the date or anything — but a gift I received that day was a St Christopher medal with the date inscribed on the back, so it’s stuck with me.<\/p>\n

About the day I remember not all that much — getting dressed up in black slacks and a white shirt, a lot more Pomp & Circumstance than we were used to in our normal parish life, relatives and minor celebration, getting a missal with a rosary built into the cover, stuff like that. <\/p>\n

Nothing profound here, just a date that sticks out more clearly than the events of that date, which is usually the opposite of most memories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
