And it&#8217;s supported on the Treo 650. <\/p>\n<p>While some folks seem to have no trouble installing it, I couldn&#8217;t make it work until I followed <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/gmail-help-mobile\/msg\/28f464e1fc9b26ce\" target=\"_blank\">these instructions<\/a> from Paul S. on the GMail boards.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ol>\n<li>\nRemove flash card to force installs to built-in flash storage\n<\/li>\n<li>\nGo to palm.com site and download the IBM Websphere Java VM\n<\/li>\n<li>\nInstall the Java VM according to Palm&#8217;s instructions (using Palm Desktop)\n<\/li>\n<li>\nonce you install the JVM, load &#8220;IBM java&#8221; from applications, click install, enter &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/gmail.com\/app\/v1.0.0\/en\/gm-Palm-Treo_650.jad\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/gmail.com\/app\/v1.0.0\/en\/gm-Palm-Treo_650.jad<\/a>&#8221; in the URL field. &#8230; <\/li>\n<li>\nThat operation should end with &#8220;installation successful&#8221;.\n<\/li>\n<li>\nGo to the application launcher and you should see the gmail app there. Run it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Java VM is available <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palm.com\/us\/support\/jvm\/download.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trick was that the Treo won&#8217;t recognize Java packages itself when downloaded (as the Google pages will try to do when you go to <em>www.gmail.com\/app<\/em>). Instead, the app has to be installed from within the Java VM, which requires the full URL, which Paul mercifully managed to clean.<\/p>\n<p>This is on a Treo 650 from AT&amp;T Wireless (now Cingular).  I&#8217;d removed the Java engine a while back, I believe, for the sake of space.
