He got upset and said that we would have to come in to his place to find out a new price. I called his bluff and threatened to end the call. He said that he would be able to give us $6250 for the car and a few free oil changes. At shop B, they were ready for us to sign the papers and give us $6000 for her car. We said that we needed to talk more about the price.<br \/>\nWe mentioned that we were offered $6250 and that we would leave unless we got $6500. The salesman left and got the manager who haggled with us until we settled on $6400.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure that they ended up saving a lot of money over just accepting the first deal.  But.  I hate haggling.  I hate it with an undying passion.  I would rather pay a (reasonable) fixed price than get into a life-and-death struggle with salesfolk over squeezing out an extra bit of money from the deal.  <em>Life is too short.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That car dealerships count on that only makes it all the more gallingly unpleasant.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which, it&#8217;s about time to start doing some looking again &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This sort of thing is why I hate buying cars.
