So, opening night for CPG<\/a>. Except, as Jeanne, our director, pointed out, it was actually our fourth show (with a year since the third). And, in reality, yes — there was none of that “opening night jitters” or “we’ve never done this before and we’re hanging by the skin of our teeth” sort of thing.<\/p>\n

There were about fifty folks there — enough to comfortably spread out in the middle two sections of the church. A goodly chunk were Cathy and her family — she and Martin were the original “producers” and inspirations to do the show. There were also a number of parishioners, but not a lot — we’d sort of scared off people with concerns over huge throngs of folks coming from the diocesan convention tonight.<\/p>\n

Except — well — evidently folks at convention decided they had other social fun stuff to do, and the convention, though listing the show, apparently didn’t push it much as an outing. Or maybe some folks are just still hinky about our parish after all the brouhaha a few years back.<\/p>\n

At any rate, we had a number of convention-goers, but not a huge throng. But that said, everyone I talked to afterwards was gushingly enthusiastic and said that they’d pass along the word. So maybe we’ll get some conventioneers tomorrow night.<\/p>\n

As to the show — not too shabby. A few stumbles in lines, one blank spot in a scene transition for me, a couple of musical cues that were not quite right, but by and large I’d say it was as good as any other performance we’d done.<\/p>\n

And I’ll try to take to heart one commenter — “We came expecting kind of an amateurish sort of thing, and you folks are professionals!” We also had at least one invitation to come down and peform the show at a church down in the southern part of the state.<\/p>\n

I was pretty happy with how it went. Not perfect, but satisfied. I was really tense for about the first 15 minutes on, and then I must sort of willed myself to relax And after that, it was fun.<\/p>\n
