Some folks think the idea of making their own wine sounds pretty cool, but are reluctant to invest in all the equipment, or in finding a local place to do it at, etc.

Now you can cut out all the “hands-on” bits and have someone do all the work at your direction, by working through CrushPad.  It’s sort of SimWinery (you can “work” purely through the online interface, if you’re not actually in San Francisco), except that when it’s done, you’ve got a barrel of wine.

Maybe you’ve been drinking wine for 5 years… maybe for 50 years. Chances are you’ve asked yourself: “Could I do this? Could I make a great wine?” That’s the question that has launched the journey of every great winemaker. With Crushpad, the answer is yes and you don’t even have to quit your day job! Adding “winemaker” to your list of life skills and experiences was the very vision that started Crushpad: figure out what kind of wine you want to make, start with a great grape source, and make sure you’ve got experts on hand to help make sure you don’t zig when you should have zagged.

While making wine involves a number of decisions, the basic process is straightforward and our winemaking staff is here to support you along the way. The result is a unique, luxury wine that reflects your passion and creativity. We can even work with you to help you sell wine if it’s not all going to friends and family. We work in barrel-sized lots, which translates into 25 cases.

Which translates into $5,000 to $9,600, so it’s not quite for the casual hobbyist.  But … damn … if I had a lot more liquidity (so to speak), or several other friends who were interested … this would be pretty cool.

  1. Fun….

You know….at 25 cases or so, you could almost make this a KOA like activity.

Hard part would be finding 25 people with the same taste in wine and willing to gamble on drinkability of the finished product. ;P
