Growing up in Southern California, I always marveled at the lovely and elaborate murals on Home Savings bank buildings. I was always disappointed that my dad worked for other banks, so that we never had any excuse to visit.
Here's a cool article (h/t +Mary Oswell) on the artist behind them (and a lot of similar art). In this era of cheap, cardboard cut-out bank branches, it's a great reminder of a distant time when banks tried to convey prosperity and class for all their customers.
