School district's official statement: "Coldwater Community Schools does not disclose information regarding the discipline of individual students under any circumstance. However, discipline procedures are in our student handbook and are consistent with Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education policies which comply with the current laws of the State of Michigan regarding student discipline."
I.e., "It's written down somewhere in official policy that having a knife at school requires a year's suspension so that's what we're doing. And we don't have to justify the unjustifiable because, out of respect for student privacy, we never comment on school discipline of a student, even when the parent is talking to the press about it already."
Yeesh.

Looks like a Buck knife, someone will be missing that.
Moral of the story – Never snitch. Not even on yourself. It's a valuable life lesson that will serve him well.

I don't know why they knocked it down to 30 days…they are giving special treatment, when the policy is clear. All hail the policy.

The other unspoken purpose for schools is to teach kids how to be good little proles, and yes schools are just the simple gentler version of prisons. From their design, function and the behavior of the adults.
