The argument has been made, amidst all the sex talk and apparent scandal-mongering, that this has been a remarkably issue-free election. This article argues that what has been talked a lot about — race, gender, religion, xenophobia, etc. — are actually the most important issues that need to be faced, much more than wonkish debates about (say) the deficit or Social Security lockboxes.
I'm not 100% convinced — but it's been a chance to confront some issues within American society that don't normally come up. And that's not a bad thing, even if none of them have been resolved.
