I was actually introduced to the books by the TV series, and was bitterly disappointing when the show didn't succeed (I still pull out that season disc and rewatch it now and again). In retrospect, I think it was constrained by budget and state-of-the-FX in (was it only) 2007. There were also complaints by fans that the series made the book material more generic, and worked too hard to fit entire volumes into individual episodes.
The new series looks like it will be rebooting from scratch.
Good Lord, Paul Blackthorne looks so young … but he's still my mental image for the character.
In one of those weird coincidences, I'm in the middle of a book series re-read (hoping the latest volume will drop in priced before I get it), and was just wondering if/when they'd ever circle back to this property for TV. It feels like it should be a natural in the current market.
Another ‘Dresden Files’ TV Series is in the Works
A new Dresden Files TV series will once again attempt to bring Jim Butcher’s fantasy-mystery books to life on the small screen.
Yeah, I was so disappointed when the original series was cancelled.
I actually just found out about it a day or two ago while browsing on Trakt. It looked and sounded interesting so I added it to my watchlist.
I'm hoping with state-of-the-art graphics that this new series will be visually amazing, at least. Depending on the budget it gets.
That is super cool to hear. Sadly, Jim Butcher appears to have abandoned the books.
There''s one that just came out in June — a short story collection, including some new material.

"Constrained by budget and FX" Well Doctor Who started pulling through two years earlier and it made it… So what went wrong here?
+Alexander Gries Less interesting writing (to be fair), less built-in audience, lesser SFX than DW (as I recall), and possibly lower budget.
I'm one of those bad people who actually preferred the TV Dresden to the book Dresden.
