Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Asian poses – For the record, the picture is the Nyan Nyan.
- Greece Rejects British Museum’s Terms for Elgin Marbles Loan – Bloomberg.com – Since I’m a lot more likely to see them (again) in London than in Athens, I’m probably biased, but this has become one of those issues that neither side can address rationally.
- The Absolute Worst Job Ever – Wow. Some day I just have to consider myself blessed …
- The pros and cons of free to play Dungeons and Dragons Online – Massively – Not sure the model they are offering is particularly compelling, but it’s an interesting idea.
- FactCheck.org: Did Obama issue a policy that “no U.S. serviceman can speak at any faith-based public event”? – I’m sure we’ll still hear about it in a Glenn Beck show real soon now.
- Some angry thoughts about the pandemic : Effect Measure – GOP Public Health Policy: “If they would rather die, then they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
- Network neutrality advocated by…cable operators?: Cory Doctorow
- Robert Gates And Hillary To GOP Leaders: You’re Putting Our Security At Risk: Greg Sargent
- Senate Passes Historic Anti-Smoking Bill: The Huffington Post News Team
- Make Fresh-Baked Bread in Five Minutes [Eat To Live]: Kevin Purdy
- First new element for five years makes periodic table – physics-math – 11 June 2009 – New Scientist – Excellent! Someone call up Tom Lehrer and tell him we need an update ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmwlzwGMMwc )
- House GOP energy plan declares that impact of global warming ‘shall not be considered for any purpose.’ – We will just wave our hand and “make it so.”

- Rove: Bush Administration Has ‘No’ Responsibility For Current Budget Deficits – Given that the Bush Administration took no responsibility for anything while in office, it’s no surprise they’d take any responsibility afterward.
- The Devil Is In The Ridiculous Details – Yeesh …
- Microsoft has some free anti-virus software up its sleeve – Given the plethora of free AV out there, I don’t think Symantec (who, um, is Norton … maybe the writer meant McAfee) has to worry about this much for being free. On the other hand, if MS bundles this with every Windows machine … well, hell, as long as it replaceable, I have no problem with that. Better than a lot of PCs with no AV at all.
- WHO declares first 21st century flu pandemic | International | Reuters – Yikes!
- Army Orders Bases to Stop Blocking Twitter, Facebook, Flickr – Good. If they’re responsible enough to use the telephone (not to mention to enlist and go into battle), they are responsible enough to use Twitter.
- Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL), a Commander in the Naval Reserve, told foreign government not to believe U.S. Government – If this guy — a Representative and Naval Reserve Officer — were a Democrat, Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh would be calling for his head, if not a court-martial.
- What really prompts the dog’s “guilty look” – We see what we expect to see. Not a big surprise.
