Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Scalia says there’s nothing unconstitutional about executing the innocent.: Ian M.
- The Future of Facebook – I do keep seeing Facebook as the AOL of the late 00s (and early 10s), only with ostensibly more user-based content. I’m still largely resisting the Collective, however.
- IPhone passes Canon Rebel XTi as most popular camera on Flickr – Fascinating. And a reminder that I have a lot of photos I need to get uploaded (heck, I need to get my photo library on to the new PC …)
- Tr.im to Go Open Source, Community Owned – Good to hear this.
- Too Funny. Astroturfers Punked! – OMG, what is “Confederate Man” there wearing?
- Texas public schools required to teach Bible this year – KLTV 7 News Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville | – Teaching the Bible as literature is a fine thing. Teaching about “the profound impact that it has had on our history and on our government” rings all sorts of warning bells and klaxons. And, of course, I’ve little doubt that some teachers (and students) will teach it is God’s Revealed Word (And, Especially, How It Backs Up My Particular Religious Views, Which If You Don’t Believe You Are Probably A Socialist And Are Certainly Going To Hell).
- Quentin Tarantino’s top 20 movies – Of the ones here I recognized (and that I’ve seen), I’m not surprised. There is, in fact, some pretty fun stuff here.
- A New Direction for NASA: Alonzo Fyfe
- Grassley Retracts Claim That Government Could “Pull The Plug On Grandma”: Greg Sargent
- you know, a “bowl” – This would not fill me with confidence.
- Paul Abrams: Some Ammo for Health Care Reform: A Little Help for Your Friends – Another detailed take-down of most of the myths against health insurance reform.
- End the hoaxes, part 1: Health care costs cause bankruptcies – Health coverage reform is not an idle dream or a “nice-to.” Reluctance because it represents change from “how things were in the old days” (never mind that our system today bears only passing resemblance to the system when I was growing up) is both short-sighted and wrong. There are people being hurt and killed out there, right now, because of the current system, and anyone reading this in the US could be next.
- End the hoaxes, part 1: Health care costs cause bankruptcies: Ed Darrell
- Ohio Police Dispatcher Sends Racist Email – Wow. These guys are such comedians. Maybe they should be freed to pursue that as a full-time career …
- The Horrors of Free Health Care – “Think about our free education system. We complain about it a lot. It has its problems for sure. But discussions of those problems take place within a widely (almost universally) shared consensus that free primary education is a good thing. To criticize education policy isn’t to call for its abolition — just like criticizing your family doesn’t mean you want your family to be disbanded.” Of course, some of the folks behind the nattering against health coverage reform (let alone a public option) are just those who would be more than happy to see public education dismantled.
- After five long years… – I blogged about this recently. In the Margie and Katherine are in all three of these pix, and I’m in the first two — Margie’s in the red top, and I’m in the blue shirt next to her. Katherine is, natch, up in front in the turquoise/green ensemble, and next to Margie in the third pic.
- Can Christians believe in an old universe? – Yes. Yes they can.
- “Astro-Turf Trolls for the Blogosphere” – It not only bugs me, it offends me deeply. This sort of thing subverts our democracy and our society. It is, in short, evil.
- Why scientists are seldom Republicans – St. Petersburg Times – The Know-Nothing Party redux.
