Unblogged Bits for Fri, 23 Apr 2010, 8:01PM

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. MPAA refused to tell U.S. GAO where it got its piracy numbers – They get them, apparently, out of somewhere (not a movie theater) where the sun never shines.
  2. How to get your photos out of Flickr, Picasa Web Albums – Belt and suspenders, man. This is why I don’t just upload stuff directly to Flickr, et al., but use my hard drive (backed up) as the primary source, and Flickr as only the public face.
  3. 10 Things You Don’t Know (or were misinformed) About the GS Case | The Big Picture – I’m no more a securities lawyer than about 99% of the commentators and pundits out there, but I know I’m rooting for the SEC to nail these jerks to the wall.
  4. A Drug That Could Make You Trust Your Government – social control – io9 – The government … the church … your boss … the possibilities are (sadly) endless.
  5. The GOP’s Solution To Everything — Let’s ‘Start Over’ (Think Progress) – Except when they’re in charge. Then it’s all “will of the people” and “rush to judgment” and “cannot afford to wait.” Of course.
  6. Coal disaster company Massey Energy denied time off for miners to attend their friends’ funerals. – The coal must flow, come hell or high water …
  7. College Republicans create ‘W’ Day to honor Bush. – Maybe they should dedicate April 1st …
  8. The new $100 – Crikey. The Right continues to out-parody itself.
  9. Florida Republicans reminded of ‘loyalty oath’ – A “loyalty oath”? Yeesh.
  10. Glenn Beck: A Vatican-approved, “wildly important” warrior against forces of “great darkness”? | Media Matters for America – Can the Vatican nominate a Mormon to be a Saint?
  11. Graham’s Disinvitation Proof That Our Military Is Run By “Fundamentalist Muslims and Homosexual Activists” – I find it fascinating that disinviting a Christian preacher from speaking to the Pentagon on a so-called national day of prayer is put forward as proof that .. there’s no separation of church and state in this country. Huh-wha-?
  12. Pam’s House Blend:: How to scare the bejesus out of Christians with a failed game plan – And they’ll know we are Christians by our … FEAR-MONGERING?
  13. California Advances Anti-Texas Textbook Bill « Texas Freedom Network – Good for them. That those backward idjits on the Texas SBoE should dictate anyone else’s educational standards, even indirectly, is intolerable.
  14. Hagee: Iceland Volcano Was God’s Response To British Ad Ban – Both Hagee and Limbaugh are clearly wrong. It was to commemorate the death of singer (and famous resident of another volcanic island) Don Ho only three (a magic number) years earlier. I think there’s at least as much evidence for my explanation as theirs.
  15. The Newest Right Wing Crusade: Defund the SPLC! – But we all know that they all used to belong to ACORN! I mean, I read it on the Internet, so it must be true!
  16. RLC strip for April / 22 / 2010 – If I ever have to get a cane, I want one that’s damn cool-looking. And has a sword hidden inside of it.
  17. Obama Goes to Wall Street, Wall Street Sneaks Off to GOP Fundraiser – Money makes the world go around, the world go around, the world go around …
  18. British Airways leaves stranded passengers all over world, jacks up prices on tickets home – I don’t know whether this behavior is illegal under the EU’s rather more consumer-friendly regulations, but it’s certainly unethical and it’s definitely horrific PR for the firm. Unless they only want to be an airline for the rich (which won’t actually pay the bills), they’d best do something about the situation that’s a bit more constructive.
