Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Foxtrot comes up with the scariest Halloween costume of all – EEEEEEEK!
- That stubborn gap – “. If it were up to the larger population of registered voters, Dems would be poised to do fairly well on Tuesday. But at this point, it’s Republicans who plan to show up on Election Day.” And it means that those who choose to stay home will have to live with their choice to sit out.
- ABC feels the heat after bizarre Breitbart invitation – Good.
- Serving up a hot cup of sanity – “The press is our immune system. If it overreacts to everything, we eventually get sicker.”
- Now there’s a strong campaign slogan – “We make a lot of errors in Congress, not out of malice or corruption. It’s out of ignorance and lack of understanding of how a $14 trillion economy operates.” So tell me why people should reelect you, Rep. Kirk (R-ILL)?
- New ‘Dark’ and ‘Brooding’ Superman Replaces Superman of ‘Truth, Justice and the American Way’ | CNSnews.com – Yes, heaven forbid that a character created 70 years ago should be updated to consider existential questions. He should just eat Hostess Fruit Pies and punch out Commies, right? I’m sure that would make Bill Donahue happy. (N.B. I haven’t read the new Superman graphic novel, thought I trust, as reimagined by JMS, it should be interesting. But, of course, it’s not going to be the “mainstream” Superman in the DCU, more of a writerly side note.)
- “It’s Now or Never”: Dobson Frets For Our Future, Begs Christians to Vote – “You know what would be noteworthy? If we could get through one national election without Dobson declaring it to be THE most important election of his lifetime.”
- David Broder Is A Drooling Imbecile – Hmmm. Arguing the advantages of war for purposes of economic and political gain sounds pretty … oh, I don’t know … EVIL if you ask me. (Side note: if the proposition is that massive government debt-be-damned spending for war will kickstart the economy — maybe massive government debt-be-damned spending for peace would do the same. Without, y’know, killing a bunch of people.)
- The Merits of the Diverging Diamond Interchange – Cool.
- This Is What A Nuclear Test Site Looks Like From Above
- Sponsored captcha – A brilliant idea. And a great way to get me to not join a site.
- Off the Charts Blog | Center on Budget and Policy Priorities | Blog Archive | Enough Is Enough on Tax Cuts for Wealthy – America works! (For the people in the top 1%.)
- Beating the system – SMBC October 30, 2010 – I know people like this.
- Rush Limbaugh Defends Video Game Free Speech, “This is Where the Battle Is” [U.s. Supreme Court] – Though I appreciate Limbaugh’s stand for video games, it also sounds fairly knee-jerk (lumped in with transfats, gas guzzlers, and light bulbs), and, of course, he paints “liberalism” as the culprit behind government telling you What You Can’t Do (cf. blue laws and gay marriage). If violent video games were demonstrably as harmful as transfats and global warming, I’d look for ways to restrict them, too (just like we restrict lawn darts, PCBs, and heroin — any thoughts on that, Rush?). But they’re not.
