Unblogged Bits (Mon. 6-Dec-10 1030)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Frank Rich on Obama and the Stockholm Syndrome – Ah. It become clear. You don’t negotiate with hostage-takers … unless you’re one of the hostages yourself. Sigh
  2. Government Prayer Protesters Found Not Guilty in Hawaii – A good decision … and I’m looking forward to see if the law suit gains any traction.
  3. Do Not Question Freedom Radiation – Nothing to see here! Move along! Trust us! We’re the government!
  4. Choosing not to fix the 1099 problem – It’s all about playing games with the GOP … “There’s a problem!” “Okay, here’s a fix for it.” “No, we want OUR fix!” “Your fix makes things worse.” “Fine, then we will keep you from fixing the problem at all, and then complain bitterly that there’s problem that you haven’t fixed.”
  5. WoW! – DORK TOWER, Monday, December 6, 2010 – Heh.
  6. So Happy Together – RLC December / 06 / 2010
  7. Bush Tax Cuts Weigh on Wall Street’s Bonus Season – NYTimes.com – “At stake is a portion of the hefty annual payouts that are a familiar part of the compensation culture on Wall Street, as well as a juicy target of popular anger. If Congress does not extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the highest income levels, a typical worker who earns a $1 million bonus would pay $40,000 to $50,000 more in taxes next year than this year, depending on base salary.” These are the people that the GOP are concerned about “hurting” in a recession — folks pulling in $1 million bonuses who might have to pay (gasp) $50K more in taxes if the GOP doesn’t force a deal on their behalf.
  8. Let’s vote on basic research! – These are the same folks who will then blame teachers unions for the decline of American competitiveness.
