Unblogged Bits (Mon. 12-Sep-11 1730)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. The US Financial Situation – So the family decided to address the problem by serving smaller meals to the kids, but throwing lavish dinners for Uncle Fred in hope that he’ll go out and get a job and contribute more to the family income. Oh, and they’re not doing house repairs or septic tank service because those are “luxuries” that are “too expensive”, while still paying for Dad’s hobby of rebuilding sports cars (of which he has more sitting around the side yard than his 19 neighbors).
  2. Colorado Voters Will Decide Whether To Raise Taxes To Fund Schools – It’s got my vote.
  3. Agents tell YA authors: lose the gay characters and I’ll get you a deal – Boing Boing – I suspect there are some that do, and some that don’t. And I suspect that for most who do, it’s purely a matter of whether they think they, in turn, can sell it to a publisher.
  4. Man Ray – DORK TOWER, Wednesday, September 7, 2011 – Heh.
  5. Geller: Criticism Of Me Is “The Enforcing Of The Sharia” – LOOK AT ME! I’M A VICTIM! REALLY! BUY MY BOOK! LOOK AT MEEEEEE!
  6. The magical world of voodoo ‘economists’ – The Washington Post – Yup. Yup. Yup.
  7. Ambassador Rice: Palestinian U.N. Bid ‘Not Symbolic, It Is Consequential’ – Access to treaties and intergovernmental bodies … sound like features, not bugs. And, to be fair, its not like something can much further imperil the “stalled peace process” more than the status quo.
  8. My Time Schedule – Yeah, pretty much …
  9. What Would A Two-State Solution Physically Require? – I think it would physically require dragging Netanyahu and his cronies out of office. For a starter.
  10. Science Says Spongebob Is Killing Your Kids’ Brains [Science] – I KNEW IT!!
  11. Brit Hume Doesn’t Think Most Americans Should be Worried About Being Spied on Because He’s Not – Because, of course, if you’re innocent, why would you worry? Assuming that the data is being monitored is accurate, and not associated with the right people, or being misinterpreted, or isn’t embarrassing, or might have social implications that outweigh the legal ones, and is guaranteed never to be seen or used by anyone (accidentally or intentionally) who for reasons we don’t know or by anyone who isn’t supposed to (including databases of information not leaking to the public or being inadvertently posted to a public website or being kept on an unencrypted laptop that gets stolen) … because we all know that none of that is ever true or happens.

  1. How come your unblogged bit about 14 things that never happen in real life didn’t show up here?

I had wanted to mention that you get a dial tone when the other person hangs up if they initiated the call. Also, I was sorry they didn’t include the TV/movie idea of what the view through binoculars is like: if you get two overlapping circles instead of a single circle, you will have a double image.

  2. The compilations cut off at 18-20 items (which is why it gets posted 4 times a day), so if that got grabbed at the beginning of a cycle it might have been cut off.

  3. Hmm. I waited until the next one, thinking it might get picked up then. So some of your Google Reader items never make it to the blog? I’m glad you follow you there, then!
