- Denver think tank endorses city initiative for paid sick leave; restaurant owners protest against it – The Denver Post – Dear Denver Restaurant Owners: I would rather pay a few cents more on my meal, and know that it was prepared by folks who felt well enough to come to work, than save some money and know that some of the cooks and waitstaff might have felt they had no choice but to come in, sick or not.

- Neither Fair Nor Accurate – I understand the desire to objectively evaluate teachers, but using standardized tests to grade teacher performance (and, thus, pay) ignores the known facts that the tests are only roughly accurate, that scoring on them varies widely by day or year, and that performance is impacted much more by factors not under teacher control. All it does is incent teachers to avoid classes with problem kids, or to find way to fob those kids off onto other teachers, programs, or schools.
