Unblogged Bits (Thu. 20-Oct-11 1731)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Walt Disney World to charge no-show diners – USATODAY.com – Not necessarily a bad idea, given the difficulty in making reservations at these places. Not sure that 24 hours is a reasonable time frame for this sort of thing, though.
  2. Romney’s Philosophy of Regulation – Look! Fracking kills people! Oops, we can’t force fracking companies to do anything about it unless we, say, fire some food inspectors. That’s … brilliant, Mitt.
  3. Young Geeks are the New Cool [Comics]Sigh. Figures.
  4. Costco, Amazon Top Most-Trusted Company Survey; Comcast Brings Up The Rear – Heh. And US Bank. They suck.
  5. Free Bieber: campaign to kill proposed law that would send you to prison for 5 years for singing copyrighted music on YouTube – Copyright law has simply gotten insane. And it’s directly traceable to Big Media paranoia / greed.
  6. U.S. used to have awesome money – Very cool. (Also, boobies!)
  7. Upcoming changes to Reader: a new look, new Google+ features, and some clean-up – The good news: they aren’t just getting rid of Reader, but are setting it up to work with Google+. That’s quite good. The bad news: having to “resubscribe” to folks I follow in GReader in G+ instead. Also, loss of the shared link blog (which I know some folks followed). And if that means that the RSS feed of same is kaput, there go my “Unblogged Bits” unless I can make that capability work off of G+. Also, it’s a heck of a lot easier to skim through folks’ shared links in Reader rather than in G+. What it sounds like is that you’ll be able to read stuff in Reader, but will primarily be sharing them through G+, which means spending more time reading stuff through G+.
