I love honey, though I don't eat a lot of it because it tends to be messy. This particular article — about ultra-filtering and contaminated cheap supplies from overseas and all that other stuff — is kind of disheartening, though I usually go for more local brands when I buy. Good grief! I don’t care for clover or mesquite honey, and due to the dearth of orange blossom honey (what I grew up with) in supermarkets, I get it elsewhere: farmers’ market, or Middle eastern markets.
Heavens, you’re not supposed to give honey to infants under two, in case of botulism from, or setting off pollen allergies. I certainly wouldn’t want to give them this “honey”. I’ve long known that KFC “honey” is adulterated.
I was at Panera tonight for the NaNoWriMo write-in, plying myself with coffee refills. While there have been times when I’ve gone for the honey, in this case I didn’t since it was in unmarked bottles. I suppose I could have asked.
This is one of the things I’ll only buy at the local farmer’s markets, and have only done so for years. Originally it was only because the taste was so much better, but this just enforces that policy! As a side note: Purple Loosestrife honey? Yes, please! Yum!
