Poll-axed

Okay, starting with the caveats that (a) it is way to early to place much if any faith in polls (I'd wait until after both formal nominations, at the earliest, to worry / rejoice, and even there I'd be cautious), and (b) a lot of the divisions in the GOP will close or narrow once there is a nominee and they're faced with their guy or Obama …

… seeing Gretchen Carlson gobsmacked is always funny. #ddtb

Worth it to see Carlson sputtering over it.

Fox News Shocked by Their Own Poll Saying Obama Likely to Win
Click here to view this media A new Fox News poll that says most voters think Obama will win the 2012 election had Gretchen Carlson flustered and uncomprehending. Even with some Republican bias, the poll only confirms what the rest of us see as obvious: a weak Republican field makes Obama's re-election far more likely than it ought to be with this very weak economy.

  1. I've been saying for a while now that, regardless of party or ideology, this particular set of GOP candidates are obviously non-player characters. Every single one of them makes Obama look personally appealing by comparison.

Live by the "guy I'd have a beer with," die by it — and two of these guys swear off both beer and coffee for religious reasons.

  2. It is a remarkably awful group, demonstrated by how they've risen in the polls, for the most part, by the others self-destructing — except for Romney, who's hated by key parts of the GOP base and in too many ways is the second coming of John Kerry, only for the GOP.

Part of the problem has come from the profound lurch to the Right by the GOP as part of their strategy to be ideologically pure. Result: candidates who are incoherently Rightist, or who are running desperately on not being the person they were four years ago.
